Kagent is a Kubernetes-native framework for building, deploying, and managing AI agents as Kubernetes custom resources. Agents are defined declaratively in YAML, combining a system prompt, LLM configuration, and a set of tools, then reconciled by a Kubernetes controller. The framework supports multiple LLM providers including Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, and Ollama, configuring each through a ModelConfig resource. Agents connect to MCP servers for tool access, and kagent ships a built-in MCP server covering Kubernetes, Istio, Helm, Argo, Prometheus, Grafana, and Cilium operations. The runtime engine is built on Google's ADK, and the stack includes a web UI and CLI for agent management. OpenTelemetry tracing is baked in for monitoring agent and tool activity. DevOps engineers and platform teams running cloud-native infrastructure are the primary audience, using kagent to automate operational tasks across their Kubernetes clusters through AI agents.
