claudecode.nvim is a pure Lua Neovim plugin that brings Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding assistant, to Neovim by implementing the same WebSocket-based MCP protocol used by the official VS Code and JetBrains extensions. The author reverse-engineered that protocol after Neovim was absent from the official launch, and the full specification is documented in a bundled PROTOCOL.md for anyone building similar integrations. The plugin exposes over a dozen Vim commands, including ClaudeCode, ClaudeCodeAdd, ClaudeCodeSend, ClaudeCodeDiffAccept, and ClaudeCodeDiffDeny, and integrates with file explorers such as NvimTree, neo-tree, oil, and minifiles via ClaudeCodeTreeAdd. It depends on folke/snacks.nvim for terminal rendering and requires the Claude Code CLI to be installed separately. Built entirely with vim.loop and Neovim built-ins, it carries no external Lua dependencies. Neovim developers who want Claude Code's context-aware editing and diff review workflow without leaving their editor are the primary audience.
