Editor's note

This MCP server bridges Claude Desktop and the Financial Datasets API, giving Claude direct access to a set of ten stock market and cryptocurrency data tools. The tools cover fundamental financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, as well as current and historical stock prices, company news, and equivalent current and historical price data for cryptocurrencies along with a tool to list available crypto tickers. Built in Python 3.10 and managed with the uv package manager, it connects to Claude Desktop by editing the claude_desktop_config.json file, after which the tools appear under Claude's hammer icon menu. A Financial Datasets API key is required and stored in a local .env file. The server is most useful for financial analysts, investors, and developers who want to query company fundamentals or price histories conversationally, for example asking Claude to retrieve Microsoft's historical stock prices across a specific date range without leaving the chat interface.
