Run Claude Code on OpenAI models
Claude Code Proxy is a Python-based HTTP proxy server that intercepts requests from Anthropic-compatible clients, particularly Claude Code, and reroutes them to OpenAI or Google Gemini backends via LiteLLM. When Claude Code sends a request intended for Claude Sonnet or Claude Haiku, the proxy translates those model names to configurable equivalents such as gpt-4.1 and gpt-4.1-mini for OpenAI, or gemini-2.5-pro and gemini-2.0-flash for Google. The backend is selected through a PREFERRED_PROVIDER environment variable supporting "openai", "google", or "anthropic" values, with Google Vertex AI supported through Application Default Credentials as an alternative to static API keys. Users point Claude Code at the local server by setting ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=http://localhost:8082, requiring no changes to the client itself. A Docker image is published at ghcr.io/1rgs/claude-code-proxy for containerized deployment.
