**Vantio** is the infrastructure control layer for autonomous AI. **Vantio Optics** is free Observe: wrap a process, see outbound LLM calls (host, size, process, time — never prompts), and export a proof. Optics does not block, redact, or cap spend.

Optics helps you see. [Gate](https://github.com/vantioai/vantio-pro) applies the rules you set where the agent is wired. [Phantom Engine](https://github.com/vantioai/vantio-phantom-engine) is runtime protection on enrolled Linux — enforce and control together, one purchase. Enterprise adds governance when you need proof and process on top.

> **Optics** (Free) · **Gate** ($499) · **Phantom Engine** ($799/node) · **Enterprise** (talk to sales)

Current published wraps: **`@vantio/cli` 0.3.18** (npm) and **`vantio-agent-sdk` 3.0.12** (PyPI). The Node SDK `@vantio/agent-sdk` **0.2.4** is for trace IDs — Node wrap lives in the CLI interceptor.

---

## Get started in 60 seconds

**Node** — prefix the command you already run. No account required.

```bash
npm install -g @vantio/cli
vantio run node agent.js
```

No-install path:

```bash
npx @vantio/cli run node agent.js
```

**Python** — install the SDK on that interpreter first. Prefixing `vantio run python` does not intercept Python by itself.

```bash
pip install vantio-agent-sdk
vantio run python agent.py
```

With the SDK installed, `vantio run python` injects the same wrap (`sitecustomize` on `PYTHONPATH`) so you do not have to edit the script. `shield()` is the in-process alternative when you want a trace ID inside the process.

Optionally connect a Gate key (paid enforce on the wrapped path):

```bash
vantio login <your-api-key>       # validates + saves the key; no env vars needed
```

Free Optics needs no key. Paid keys come from a Gate trial (`hello@vantio.ai` today)
or Stripe Checkout once live — there is no public self-serve key dashboard yet
(`/dashboard` redirects to docs). See [vantio.ai/pricing](https://vantio.ai/pricing).

After a run, export a proof artifact or explore local history:

```bash
vantio prove                      # HTML proof artifact (Free, no key needed)
vantio discover --local           # local run history (Free, no key needed)
vantio search openai              # search captured calls (Free)
vantio tail                       # latest calls from the most recent run
vantio diff <run-a> <run-b>       # compare two local runs
vantio discover                   # workspace history (Gate / Phantom Engine)
```

## Sight Loop (Optics workflow)

Optics ships one named workflow — **Sight Loop**:

1. **Wrap** — `vantio run` (Node) / `vantio-agent-sdk` then `vantio run python` or `shield()` (Python)
2. **Capture** — host · process · bytes · time · trace (no prompts/completions)
3. **Inspect / export** — `vantio search` · `vantio tail` · `vantio diff` · `vantio prove` · `vantio discover --local` · **Optics MCP**
4. **Honest gap** — paths that never hit the interceptor stay unnamed here

Optics is the client at every product. On Free (no Gate key), it **observes only** — events are labelled `OBSERVED`. With a Gate key, the same client fetches policy from [Vantio Gate](https://github.com/vantioai/vantio-pro) and can refuse a destination, strip sensitive fields, or cap spend on the wrapped path. Phantom Engine is a separate purchase for Linux hosts you enroll. See [observe-only.md](./docs/observe-only.md) for the Free-tier fence.

## SDK — Python wrap and Node trace IDs

### Node.js

```bash
npm install @vantio/agent-sdk
```

```ts
import { shield } from "@vantio/agent-sdk";
await shield(async () => {
  await runMyLLMAgent();
});
```

Node wrap of `fetch`, undici, `http`/`https`, `ClientRequest`, `http2`, `net`/`tls`, `WebSocket` (host-block and outbound frame size), `undici.upgrade` / CONNECT tunnel bytes, and Node-spawned `curl` and `wget` is in **`@vantio/cli` 0.3.18** (`vantio run`). Use `shield()` when you want a trace ID across async hops.

### Python

```bash
pip install vantio-agent-sdk
```

> On Ubuntu/Debian (23.04+), global `pip install` is blocked by default (PEP 668). Use a virtualenv or `pipx install vantio-agent-sdk` instead.

```python
from vantio import shield
@shield
async def run_agent():
    await call_openai(prompt)
```

While `shield()` is active — or after `vantio run python` with the SDK installed — Optics records urllib and http.client to in-scope hosts. If `requests`, `httpx`, `aiohttp`, or `urllib3` are already installed, those are recorded the same way.

---

## Supported wraps

**Node (`vantio run`):** `fetch`, `undici.fetch`, `undici.request` (including Client / Pool / Agent), `undici.stream` / `pipeline` / `dispatch` / `connect` / `upgrade`, Node `http` / `https` including `ClientRequest`, Node `http2.connect` / `session.request`, Node `net` / `tls` connect to in-scope hosts, `WebSocket` host-block and outbound frame size (payloads are not read), outbound bytes on `undici.upgrade` / CONNECT sockets, and Node-spawned `curl` / `wget` (including `env` / `timeout` / `nice` prefixes, `curl -K` `url=` lines, `curl -F` size from stat, stdin size when stdin is a file, `wget -i` URL lists, and file-body size from `--post-file` / `@file`; file contents are not read). Spawned httpie and aria2c share host-block from argv URLs.

**Python (`vantio-agent-sdk`):** `urllib` (urlopen and custom openers); `http.client`; `requests`, `httpx`, `aiohttp`, and `urllib3` when those libraries are already installed; `socket.connect` / `connect_ex` / `create_connection` / `ssl.SSLSocket.connect` to in-scope hosts (host-block and observe; no TLS payload redaction); `subprocess` / `os.system` / `asyncio` curl and wget spawns to in-scope hosts (host-block, observe, file-body and curl `-F` size from stat, stdin size when stdin is a file, `wget -i` URL lines; curl/wget bodies are not rewritten). Spawned httpie and aria2c share host-block from argv URLs. Current published SDK: **`vantio-agent-sdk` 3.0.12**.

**Phantom Engine:** runtime protection on enrolled Linux hosts you own — not this repo.

**Providers:** OpenAI (including regional), Anthropic, Google Gemini, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI, Cohere, Mistral, Groq, Together AI, Perplexity, xAI, DeepSeek, Fireworks, OpenRouter, Cerebras, Voyage AI, SambaNova, DeepInfra, Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Hugging Face Inference, Replicate, Ollama, hosted NVIDIA NIM.

Browser paths stay outside this wrap.

## What gets captured

- Which LLM endpoint was called
- Response size in bytes
- The process ID
- A trace ID that links calls across your agent's full execution

**What never gets captured:** prompts, completions, or any content from your requests.
